Navigating the Insurance Puzzle with Expert Guidance
To all fellow insured.
On December 13th 2015 my husband Jim experienced a major stroke while on business in Los Angeles. He spent quite a while in the Intensive Care Unit. Our family did not feel that he was receiving the correct care there and with the help of American Express he was medically evacuated to Pinecrest Rehabilitation Center in Delray Beach. The care he was given there was excellent and was eventually able to come home. While at home he was visited by physical, occupational and speech therapists. These therapies required special equipment for each. Also needed was a hospital bed, walkers, wheelchair etc. There was also a full time nurse for him every day. Over the years there were doctors’ visits, hospital stays and rehabilitation center stays. We also required medical equipment such as oxygen compressors, CPAP machines and hygiene supplies.
When Richard S. Bernstein & Associates Inc. suggested Long Term Medical insurance to us my husband said he would never need it but that I should get it. That is the course we took. If at that time we could have predicted the future we would have both signed up.
While the health insurance that we had covered a portion of the expense of his care and medical costs, not everything were covered. If Jim had taken the Long Term Care insurance as he was advised things would have been less stressful. Having this stroke took away his ability to make any income. What we had saved was getting drained as I only wanted the best care for Jim.
We would never have imagined that we would have been in this situation. Jim lived for almost nine years after his stroke but only because of the care we gave him. While nobody can predict what will happen in the future we can plan for it. Thinking back I should have insisted that he got the same coverage. Long Term Care insurance would have made a huge difference in our lives.
I would highly recommend that if you are thinking about this insurance – take it.
